Imagine the rich, deep notes of coffee flawlessly entwined with the refreshing, slightly grassy flavors of matcha. It sounds like a dream, doesn't it? Well, with our fantastic dirty matcha latte recipe, this dream becomes a delicious reality!
Dirty matcha latte introduces a delightful contradiction to your palate - a blend of Japanese tradition and modern coffee culture. It's essentially a matcha latte given a shot (or two) of aromatic espresso. The result is a unique balance of flavors, not to mention a visual treat, thanks to the striking color contrast between the green matcha and brown coffee.
Ingredients
2 teaspoons of Latte Matcha
1/4 cup oatmilk or milk of your choice
100ml of hot water (under boiling)
2 teaspoons sugar
2 tablespoons of water
2 teaspoons coffee powder or espresso
40ml boiled water
Preparation
Making the Best Dirty Matcha Latte Recipe:
Scoop out the matcha powder and sift it into the bottom of either a chawan bowl or glass.
Begin heating up filtered water - at least 100 ml.
Once the water hits about 70-80 degrees C, pour it into the Chawan bowl.
Whisk the matcha well with your bamboo whisk using rapid zigzag motions until a foam appears.
Stir in the sugar or your preferred sweetener until it's completely dissolved.
Pour the warm matcha sugar mixture into a tall glass to sit and cool.
Making the Coffee:
Measure and boil 40ml of water.
Scoop out 2 teaspoons of coffee powder and add it to the water after it has just reached boiling.
Stir to dissolve the coffee powder completely so there is no dry powder left.
Combining the Dirty Matcha:
Fill the glass containing Matcha sugar mixture to the top with ice cubes (larger cubes are better).
Measure and add in ¼ cup of your choice of milk.
Finish it off by gently pouring in the coffee, creating a lovely contrast!
A Trick to Remember:
To achieve the proper beautiful gradient and taste, pour the coffee directly onto an ice cube in the glass to slow the momentum of the pour. This will prevent the drinks from immediately combining.

Dirty Matcha - A Flavor Adventure
A well-prepared dirty matcha latte intrigues your tastebuds with the bold flavors of matcha and coffee, making every sip a pleasant surprise. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even swap the espresso powder for hojicha powder (a roasted green tea), adding a new dimension for your palette.

Bonus Tips for Making Dirty Matcha
Making a good dirty matcha latte is about allowing the coffee and matcha to mix imperfectly. It’s much more intriguing to enjoy shifts in taste - some sips lean towards coffee, others tilt towards matcha, and some are a perfect harmony of the two.
To prepare your dirty matcha latte effectively, it's ideal to have a chasen or bamboo tea whisk for preparing the matcha. A chawan, or a clay matcha bowl, is also handy to prevent spillage thanks to its wide base and steep sides.
